Aldara Treatment. ( This treatment regime is my own personal regime and is only for people who are closely monitored by their Physician. It is not the recommendations of the manufacturer. ) Aldara (imiquimod) is used to stimulate the local immune response within your skin so that your own system finds the abnormalities in your skin and removes them. In your case we are using it to treat either: 1) Single spots identified as superficial BCCs ( early Basal Cell Carcinomas) and for this I usually recommend 30 applications. 2) A “ field” of skin within which there is evidence of BCCs developing and for this I usually recommend 20 applications. Please apply the cream to the skin in the target area every night before bed in such a way that it covers the skin thinly then rub so that the cream is no longer visible. Please keep the cream at least 1 cm away from the edge of your eyes and mouth. Should you have a skin reaction that you consider is unusual or if you feel that the cream is making you feel unwell then you need to make an appointment to see Dr Cottee on 09 4382188. Alternatively you could email Dr Cottee with your concerns and a picture if possible. The email address to use is bruce@tbmc.co.nz Please return for a visit after the first two weeks of treatment at the latest so that the initial response can be assessed. While using the cream you can wash your face in the usual way and you are allowed to swim in the ocean but not in public pools. Dr Bruce Cottee 131 Dent Street Whangarei. Ph 09 4382188
