At Skin Cancer Doctors Ltd we are able to deal with almost all skin cancers that we see. The team has significant experience and are currently performing over 70 skin excisions per month. These range from simple elliptical excisions through to skin flaps and grafts. Our doctors are very particular about cosmesis and we are very conscious that it is important to have the best looking scar possible. We always try to allow more time than is necessary for a procedure so that there is no time pressure should there be the need for a change of plan. We have dedicated procedure rooms and we use the best materials available.
This picture was taken immediately after facial surgery and is an example of our work. In this case a large Basal Cell Carcinoma was removed and the skin edges were sutured under the skin with a synthetic material called monocryl (Poliglecaprone) that is absorbed by the skin usually within four to eight weeks. Very rarely the body rejects this material and it will appear in the wound line. If this happens it is easily removed. Anyone who wants to optimise the appearance of their scars can apply paper tape over the wound for three months. This reduces the skin tension and results in less scar formation.
