Dr Cottee has extensive experience with skin procedures necessary to deal with most skin cancers. We are currently performing over 50 skin excisions per month and these range from simple elliptical excisions to full thickness flaps and grafts. Dr Cottee is very particular about cosmesis and having worked with plastic surgeons he is very conscious that it is important to have the best looking scar possible. We always try to allow more time than is necessary for a procedure so that there is no time pressure should there be the need for a change of plan. We have a dedicated Day Care theatre and we only use the best materials available.
This picture was taken immediately after facial surgery and is an example of our work. In this case a large Basal Cell Carcinoma was removed and the skin edges were sutured under the skin with a synthetic material called monocryl (Poliglecaprone) that is absorbed by the skin usually within four to eight weeks. Very rarely the body rejects this material and it will appear in the wound line. If this happens it is easily removed. Anyone who wants to maximise the appearance of their scars can apply tape over the wound for three months. This reduces the skin tension and results in less scar formation.
